This session was definitely one for the books – Serena, Jake and I headed out to Catalina Island in California to an open field on the backside of the island for this creative summer shoot. The field was made up of golden grass and had a view of the ocean and cliffs in the background. Catalina Island is one of my favorite locations to photograph couples. I love exploring the island and creating unique photoshoots for each of my clients.
Once we arrived on the island, we headed to the backside of Catalina Island – and you actually have to have a local drive you because they require you to have a special access card to drive on the backside of the island. The road is windy and bison roam freely along the open fields and rugged hills that dominate the landscape – with the beautiful blue ocean views in the background, how could you not want to have your photography session here?
We drove around to find the perfect spot and when we finally got there we blew up an air-mattress and put a white sheet and florals around it. Serena and Jake were so fun and easy to work with, they made getting candids so effortless. I was able to capture the authentic intimacy that these two had! They rolled around and joked with each other leading to big smiles and heartfelt moments. Additionally I was even able to snag some cute photos of them packing the car back up!
Helping my couples create art and an experience during their photo session is incredibly important to me. I love to capture small details that make couples’ relationships special. With Serena and Jake I was able to document something super fun and unique; playing around with new ideas and concepts is something I would love to explore more of.
Catalina Island is a great place to have your next photography session. It is one of the most scenic places off the coast of California, it almost feels like a foreign paradise. If you are looking for ocean views, free-roaming wildlife, and open fields this might be the perfect place for your creative couples session.
