This Joshua Tree California engagement session was one for the books! When planning a desert shoot the weather is always something to keep in mind. However, sometimes it makes for an even better session if you give it the chance. The desert vibes that come with Joshua Tree National Park make for a perfect backdrop for your engagement session.
After booking Amy and David’s wedding, Amy and I met for lunch to discuss the details of her wedding and vision behind the engagement photos. She immediately mentioned wanting an adventurous session in Joshua Tree California like the ones she had seen all over Pinterest. Of course, I eagerly agreed and we began planning the details of their engagement photos.
As the day of their shoot approached I kept an eye on the weather. Everything was set to go and David flew in from Texas just to capture these photos with his fiancรฉ Amy. The morning of the shoot there was a wind advisory of up to 35 mph winds and 45 mph gusts. I let the couple know ahead of time about the weather report and listed some backup locations with similar vibes. Having been set on Joshua Tree California, we decided to tough it out and made our way to the national park.
We met at the Joshua Tree National Park Visitor Center and carpooled the rest of the way into the park. On our way into the park we found a great spot a few miles in and started the photoshoot. The session was full of fun and laughter. I always make sure to give my clients prompts to loosen up in front of the camera and give them time to sit in the moment with each other.
We used our time in Joshua Tree California to get creative with the photos. As a result we scaled some rocks and utilized the epic view of the desert from the peaks. After that we made our way down the rocks and onto flatter grounds to shoot amongst the famous Joshua Trees. On our way out of the park we stopped to capture a killer sunset and even tried getting some headlight shots with the car when it got darker.
The overall shoot was amazing and the winds were not as bad as we anticipated. So I am glad we decided to tough it out and not let the weather advisory dictate our location choice for the day! I loved that I was able to get creative and go for more of a story teller style with this shoot. I am always up for an adventure; thatโs what initially got me into photography. Above all else, working with couples that are up for this are always an absolute blast and remind me why I do what I do!
After sending out the gallery my favorite part is when my clients talk about how much the photos mean to them. This was the response I got from this gallery: “OMG ๐๐๐๐ We just looked through them and we are in LOVE with these photos!!! Thank you so much!!! YOU ARE THE BEST!” -Amy
